“19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
In these verses we see a different perspective on suffering and affliction. These words were written to the people of Laodicea who were neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm. They had become proud thinking they didn’t need God and had not realized their true condition which was very needy. (Read verses Revelation 3:14-22.) Jesus gives them counsel to come to Him which brings us to the verses above. It shows how God can use suffering and affliction to draw them to Himself.
He is standing at the door, waiting for us to ask Him in. Then, He will come in and fellowship with us.
Fellowship with Him, sweet fellowship with God is waiting if we realize our need and turn to Him. What a blessed hope in suffering and affliction.
