Daily Dose of Encouragement: Matthew 27:62-66

Matthew 27:62-66

“62 The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive He said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 Therefore give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come, steal Him, and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead.’ Then the last deception will be worse than the first.”

65 “You have[a] a guard of soldiers,”[b] Pilate told them. “Go and make it as secure as you know how.” 66 Then they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting the guard.[c]”

Today, we look at Saturday, between Jesus’ death and resurrection. During this time, the religious rulers had a niggling of fear and asked Pilate for a guard. Little did they realize that a seal and a guard could not hold him back.

They thought they were in control and could control the outcome. God was in control.

I can only imagine the sorrow of the disciples and Jesus’ followers and family on this day. They did not know what would happen the next day, but God did.

Do you realize what this means? God is in control of our lives as well. God has power and victory. What an encouragement this is as we live the life of isolation.

The movie below is something I watch each year as it tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of His disciple John while he is in exile. For me, it brings it all to life. I hope it encourages you as well.
