Tuesday Tip: Make Someone’s Day

A simple thank you and smile can make someone’s day.

A dear friend who works in retail and I were chatting the other day. She mentioned the treatment people give to them. It is as if they aren’t people at all. Rudeness abounds. Oh, she does meet some very nice people as well, but also deals with a fair share of “extra grace required” people. It made me stop and think.

We who are chronically ill, disabled, and isolated often mention how we wish that people would see us as people not patients. I think that sometimes we are guilty of doing the same thing to medical personnel or care workers in reverse. They are people with their own problems and struggles. Much of what happens is out of their control and yet they are berated for it. I have been amazed at the number of medical personnel who have said that a simple thank you and smile changed their day for the better as they hear it so seldom.

What about the other people we encounter? Care workers, delivery drivers, or mail persons all are people as well and like to be seen. A smile and thank you can make their day and costs nothing.

My tip today is simply this. Share a smile. Look for those who are also “invisible” around you and brighten their day. 🙂 You never know when that may just bring them to Jesus. It will change your day as well!
