In the Old Testament, spotless lambs were sacrificed for sins. The blood of these animals did not take away the sins, but were a picture of the Lamb of God who came later.
God says that the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23, “23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Jesus became the sacrificial lamb for us. He fulfilled the sacrifice for sin for all. He is our Passover Lamb who paid for all sins, past, present, and future.
Hebrews 7:26-29, “26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.”
Selah.
Think about that. The Son of God left Heaven to become sin for us, to become the sacrificial Lamb for us so that we may have relationship with God.
John 1:29, 36, “29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!”
1 Peter 1:19, “19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
Revelation 5:6-12, “6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. 7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. 8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. 9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. 11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; 12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”
Revelation 7:17, “17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
Worthy is Jesus, the Lamb! Oh, praise His Name!
