Grateful November, Day 27

Gratefulness: What are you thankful for today?

Today, I am thankful for God’s Word, our Bible. Just think, the God who made the universe also wrote us a love letter. Wow. Psalm 119:97, “97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.”

Daring Devotion Thoughts from Day 27: The faithful saint of God that we are looking at today is Henry Martyn. He was a missionary to India and Iran in the late 1700’s through the early 1800’s. Henry is quoted as saying, “Let me burn out for God.”

But, who was Henry Martyn? He was a man who was plaqued by chronic illness and who knew that his life may not be long. He decided that he wanted each part of his life to count for God. He was passionate about translating Scripture into Hindustani and Persian. God allowed Him to reach the goal befoe He took Henry Home to be with Him.

1 Peter 1:23-25, “23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

These accounts of the faithful saints who served despite chronic illness and multiple trials encourage my heart and inspire me. They didn’t allow their present circumstances to keep them from serving God. May I also be faithful!
