Grateful November, Day 22

Gratefulness: What are you thankful for today?

Today, I am thankful for my home. It is a blessing to have a home.

Daring Devotion Thoughts from Day 22: Mary Slessor, missionary to Africa, was an amazing woman. She worked hard to rescue twins (who were thought to be devils when born) and orphans as well as mediator for disputes between tribes.

She would walk miles through the jungle into the heart of heated disputes and hear both sides. Mary heard that the chiefs were dubious that a woman could assist, but gave all glory back to God and said that they had not taken Him into account. She knew she could not do it alone. While Mary listened in this very dangerous position, she would quietly knit. She learned that the God of Daniel was still the God today. He protected her. He shut the mouths of lions.

In all this, spiritual growth was slow. There were long periods of times when her care of the children and daily “survival tasks” took up all her time. She realized that it was important to do whatever task came to her. It could be discouraging to work so hard with seemingly so little to show for it, but she realized that the labor was not lost. God used it all as it was done for His glory. She realized that prayer changed things. She realized that results were all on God, not her.

Where are you at today? Weary? Laden with daily tasks? Lean into Him. He is in even the drudgery of daily life. He will answer prayer. He will then be glorified!
