This past week, I had been out of town for a much-needed vacation. The following passage comes to mind.
Isaiah 55:8-13, “8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. 12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
Our plans for vacation did not include the Emergency Room or car issues. God’s did.
Through these adventures, we saw God work. We received answers, or maybe direction, for medical issues. Our car stopped working entering the parking lot of Wendy’s within forty-five miles of some of my church folks’ who came to rescue us while the others came to repair the car and get it home. It didn’t die on the freeway. It didn’t die on a back road with no place to pull off. It died in a parking lot with food and facilities available while we waited (in the car due to my immune system). (Three of the four people in the vehicle have significant medical issues which require managing. Being stranded on the freeway or a back road would have been incredibly difficult.)
This adventure also gave the opportunity to share the gospel which we wouldn’t have had otherwise. SERIOUSLY! 🙂 God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours!
While our vacation wasn’t what we planned, we had many, many memories made. We loved the time together! God is faithful and good all the time!
