Facing Giants

It is another Monday. What “giants” are you facing this week?

Were you just given yet another diagnosis? Do you have appointments coming up that you dread? Are you simply overwhelmed with the schedule for the week? Do you have challenges that seem too big? Is your current trial seemingly never-ending?

I have good news. 1 John 4:4, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

God is greater. He is greater than all you face.

Sometimes, we need to remember the “Sunday School Stories” that we heard of as children and realize the power that God had. These stories are true. Today, as I face a very busy week, I think of David. My heart is challenged and inspired.

He was a young man. The giant was huge. He didn’t depend on the king’s armor. He depended on His King.

1 Samuel 1:23-58 has the entire story. Please read the entire story, but look at this:

  • v. 39. “…And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. ” David would not rely on something that he had not proven. He had proven the Lord by leaning on Him before. He had sought God and learned of God. He knew what God could do.
  • v. 45. “45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.” David came in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel. He did not come in his own name or power, but as in the name of God. He was an ambassador for God to defeat someone who defiled the name of God.
  • v. 47. “47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.” David was depending completely on God. He also expected a victory.
  • v. 53. “53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.” David’s testimony inspired others. He inspired others to follow God to victory.

This same God is our God! This same God is here for us, to fight our battles to bring Him glory. This God is greater than the world and all its challenges. He has already won the battle! We face our battles in His name and strength. We can claim victory.
