Today, I am thankful for our good Shepherd and His reminders.
John 10:11-18, “11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”
This past weekend, I was reminded of this passage as I met my brother and niece at a car show. They arrived first and I was looking for them to meet up. As I searched for them, I heard their voices across the lane in the parking lot. Later, we found a shorter way back to my car, but it was over a bit of rough ground for the scooter. They came with me to make sure I made it. My brother and niece were there until they knew I was safely across as they knew that I was a bit nervous about it.
Ordinary moments in a day, but it touched my heart. I was searching for them and knew their voices even amongst the noise of the loud speaker and other people. It hit me. Am I seeking for God? Do I know His voice? The passage about the good Shepherd came to mind. His sheep know His voice.
Later, the ordinary moment of my brother and niece making sure I crossed the rougher ground safely made me think of God as He walks with us. Hebrews 13:5b, “…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” I felt loved.
As I have walked through this week, God has been with me. I am thankful for our Good Shepherd! He makes sure I know I am loved.
What are you thankful for today?
