This morning, I awoke with all the challenges of the day in my mind. Distracted thinking would be a good way to sum it up.
As I was struggling to keep my mind on my Bible reading, I came to Philippians 4:8 again.
Philippians 4:8, “8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
A simple illustration came to mind as I thought about this verse. When we fill our coffee cup with coffee, what does it have in it?
“Duh,” you say, “Coffee!”
It is the same with our mind. What do we fill it with? Sometimes, our mind gets stuck thinking about a fear, worry, offense, etc. Whatever it is soon fills our mind and drowns out anything else.
Let’s be careful to fill our minds with good things, things such as truth, honesty, just thoughts, purity, loveliness, and good news. Fill it with virtue and praise. Soon, you will be thinking about Him!
