Faithful Friday

On this Friday, my thoughts are on the faithfulness of God over the years.

After a friend request from a family friend of many years ago came across my social media, my mom and I were talking about the “good ‘ole days.” This family had been faithful servants in starting a church over a half-century ago.

We began to talk about all God has done through the years. It reminded us of something that has happened unexpectedly and randomly over the years. People would hear my name or see my name on a name tag at conferences or special services and approach me. Due to my unique name, they knew it was indeed the little girl (teen, young adult, adult) for whom they had prayed.

“We prayed for you to live before you were born (or at age three or in college). You are walking even!” These statements were followed by a huge smile and something about our faithful God who answers prayer. Hmmm… My eyes are suddenly getting a bit moist. It is humbling and amazing.

You see, these people are from all over the nation, some from all over the world. Mom and I were talking about it yesterday. This was well before the internet. This was well before calling plans in a time when every phone call cost. God’s people intervened. God has faithfully answered more than we could ask or think.

My heart is overwhelmed thinking about it today. Our God is a faithful God.

My heart is overwhelmed. As those who are disabled, chronically ill, or isolated, we may not be able to get out and serve in ways others can, but we can pray to our faithful God and intervene for others. What could God do through us in the lives of others just as these believers did who intervened in prayer on my behalf? Will we “stand in the gap?”
