Whew… that doesn’t sound very encouraging unless you read the rest of the verse! It sounds rather discouraging. the very important second part of the verse tells the rest of the story.
Philippians 3:8, KJV: “8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,”
Look at that. All things other than Christ, other than the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, are worthless, like excrement. They mean nothing compared to Jesus Christ.
Wow. Simply wow. That tells us the worth of our Lord and Savior and our relationship with Him.
As I was thinking of this, I realized something. Even our health and comfort is worthless compared to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ouch. I prefer good health and comfort, to be perfectly honest, but… my relationship with God is much more important.
That is what is priority. I must seek Him and count Him most important. All other things pale in comparison.
Matthew 6:33, KJV: “33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
And so, today, are we willing to count all things but loss to seek Him? Will we put Him first?
