LWD: God’s Story

Everyone has a story. I love to hear their stories.

This is my story, but I call this God’s Story as He is the one who orchestrates it. It is the story of what God has done in my life.

There are so many verses that I could share as I share the “short version” of my story. However, I will share those as we walk through the next few weeks. I think Jeremiah 33:3 sums it up.

Jeremiah 33:3, KJV: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

My story starts with my parents having God show them great and mighty things after they called on Him. They were many of the thousands who were told they would never have children. They adopted my older brother when he was a newborn. As they began the process of adopting a little girl as well, they received wonderful news. They were expecting.

Then, seeming tragedy struck as my mom became very ill. The baby had no heartbeat. The procedure was scheduled to remove the baby. My dad, his cousin, and the doctor prayed all night. The next morning, the baby’s heartbeat was back. The doctor said that if the baby was a boy, my parents needed to name it Lazarus; a girl, Miracle.

God continued to work. My parents went on to have three more children after several miscarriages. Each sibling also has their own story of God’s working. Each sibling is a blessing!

While my siblings may disagree and state I have never been “normal,” I was normal when I was born. At age three, my life changed when, from what they could tell, I contracted encephalitis from a mosquito. Yup, a mosquito changed my life as the encephalitis caused a stroke. There was an epidemic that year. The others with the disease in the hospital I was at didn’t make it. I lived, but my life was forever changed. My parents called on God. He showed them great and mighty things.

What is going on in your life right now that seems impossible? God is still working. He listens when we call.

Through the years, God has continued to show Himself strong. He has continued to do great and mighty things even through the challenges. Living with Disability (LWD) was not easy. Yet, He is an awesome God! Through the next few weeks, I want to share these lessons I have learned from disability.

What is God’s story in your life? We would love to hear it!
