Ephesians 6:13-20, Part 3

Ephesians 6:13-20, KJV: “13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

We saw that we must stand for God by being covered with truth, righteousness, and peace. Today, we look at the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

Notice that the next three parts are above all that we talked about before.

  • 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” The shield of faith (in God) is able to handle quench all that the wicked throw at you. They put out the fire they bring.
  • 17 And take the helmet of salvation, ” I don’t know about you, but the mental aspect of chronic illness and isolation can be worse than some of the physical aspects. We need the helmet of salvation. We need to see everything through the filter of the gospel. God loves us. He gave His life for us to pay the price for sin. He gives us grace.
  • “and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: ” (end of verse 17) We also need the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. We should be immersed in His Word, meditating on it and memorizing it. This is the sword that will help cut down the enemies.

Tomorrow, we will look at the last three verses that complete this section. As we begin this week, let’s remember to put on our armor. It will make all the difference.
