We are including verse 10 in today’s passage again as they go together. We are to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. This means we are not living the new life in Him on our own. What peace comes with that declaration.
Ephesians 6:10-12, KJV: “10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
These verses make me think of when I would “help” my dad in the garage or my mom in the kitchen when I was little. Oftentimes, I would choose a tool or utensil that was completely wrong for the job. My parents would gently guide me to the right one in order to complete the task.
In the same way, we often try to fight the battle of living the Christian life on our own, with all the wrong tools. We fight the person or the circumstance with our wisdom, not realizing that that is not our enemy. The movie War Room summed it up in this clip:
The good news is that God gives us His armor in order to be able to fight this battle. We will look at this armor in coming days, but I would highly recommend doing a more in-depth study. This one by Priscilla Shirer was a blessing to me.
As we go into our day, let’s use the right tools to fight our enemy: God’s armor. Let’s realize who the real enemy is: principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Let’s fight the right battle with the right tools and not in our own strength.
