Ephesians 6:10, KJV: “10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
Finally…
Paul has taught us about our salvation, the church, our identity, the new life, and how to live it. Now, he comes to his last point. Of course, as a PK (Preacher’s Kid), I know that the last point is both the most important, and sometimes, the longest. Ahem. But, I digress.
Paul’s last point is important. Paul is telling us as believers in Christ to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Let’s break that down just a bit:
- be strong: “to receive strength, be strengthened, increase in strength” (from the link) Don’t walk around defeated no matter your circumstances. Be strong. Now, that is an impossible situation without the next part of the verse.
- in: Where are we receiving our strength? It is from being “in.” We are God’s children. We are His. We are in Him. We are not alone.
- the Lord: Remember who our King is. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the Creator, the Almighty God. We are to live our daily life in His strength.
- power: Power, the opposite of weakness. Did you see that? We can walk in power! Not our power, but His.
- might: Yes, His “ability, force…” We are going forward not in our power of might, but His! Whew!
Long distance walking has always been tough. When I was younger, my dad would put me on his shoulders and carry me the longer distances. Later, he would push me in a wheelchair for the longer distances. I was too weak to do it on my own. Yet, I could do as my dad took care of me with his strength. Isn’t it the same with God? We can’t do it on our own, but we can in His strength. We can be strong in Him
Are you wondering how you can face the day with overwhelming challenges? Be strong in Him and in the power of His might!
