Chapter 5 of Ephesians continues to help us walk in this new life in a way that pleases God. This chapter covers purity, generosity, speech, walking in light, encouraging one another, and relationships in the home. Whew!
I love the first two verses. These verses set a foundation for the remainder of the chapter.
KJV: “5 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
These verses get to the heart of the matter. We follow God as dear children. We walk in love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. What comes next is part of that sacrifice to God. It may not be easy, but it will have a sweetsmelling savour.
Have you ever been around people who brighten the room when they walk in and make any day a bit brighter? They have that sweetsmelling fragrance. You can tell they have spent time with Jesus.
Today, let’s meditate on these first two verses. Let’s follow God and walk in love, following Christ’s example.
