It is such a blessing to walk through this practical guide for new life living.
Today’s verses (26-27) are so important. KJV: “26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil.”
Notice that anger is not the problem. It says to be angry and not sin. When you are angry, do it without sin. Keep it short by ending it that day and not giving place to the devil.
Why is it so important that we “give our anger” to God so to speak? Why is it so important to keep anger short? Anger is a strong emotion. We can say and do things in anger that we would not normally do. These momentary harsh words and actions (or the opposite favorite response, the silent treatment) can cause much destruction and hurt that can take weeks, months, years to reverse.
It reminds me of Hebrews 12:15, KJV: “15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;” A small root of bitterness can not only trouble you, but defile many just as a weed in the garden can overtake a garden quickly. I think this verse supports Ephesians 4:26-27. We must keep our anger sin-free, short, and from giving the devil a chance to destroy our lives and that of others.
Side note in these verses regarding anger. Be careful not to let another’s anger about something destroy you. Be careful before “picking up another’s offense” against someone. There are typically two sides to a story.
I think it is easier with being isolated to fixate on anger, to fixate on things that upset us as we have little else to distract us. When that happens, saturate your mind with God. Remember these verses and ask for His help. He will deliver.
We are taking a very slow walk through this practical passage of Ephesians 4:22-32 as it has much to offer us for practical daily living this new life. See you tomorrow!
