What would you do if Jesus Himself gave you an assignment as well as everything you needed to do the assignment?
KJV: “11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”
As a believer, you, yes you, have a job to do in the church, the body of Christ.
You, yes you, one who is home-bound, you have a job to do in the church. You have an assignment!
I don’t know about you, but that excites me!
Jesus has made some apostles (usually referring to the 12 apostles in Scripture), some prophets (spokesman for God, one who speaks out), some evangelists (those who bring the good news to others), some pastors (overseer, shepherd in the church), and teachers (someone who instructs about the things of God). (Side note: Blue Letter Bible is great for help with understanding Scripture. They have great commentaries and concordances available.) Jesus has a job for you to do. He has gifted you for the job. Seek Him in it!
This job that we have is given for a specific and important purpose, verse 12: “for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:” The work is important as it trains, ministers, and edifies (builds up) the body of Christ. Do you see that our given job can be used to strengthen the health of the church?
Verse 13 gives the goal: “13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” Do you see that the goal is unity, knowledge of Jesus, and Christ-likeness? Amen and amen! A church with unity, knowledge of Jesus and Christ-likeness would be a healthy church.
I don’t know about you, but as I read this, my heart was challenged and encouraged. It made me ask God what He would have me to do today to strengthen His church! Jesus has an assignment for me.
Jesus has an assignment for you. What might God have for you to do to strengthen the church?
