Ephesians 1:9-10

You are loved. Let that settle in. Are you isolated, overwhelmed, and in pain? You are loved. You are known. You are wanted. You have worth.

We have been looking at Ephesians 1 and the great riches that God gives us. These are spiritual blessings that go beyond our physical needs and circumstances. They exist despite our situation, health, or past. They are something to be so thankful for even on the darkest days.

Verses 7-8 tell of His redemption and forgiveness. As one translation says that He lavishes these on us in wisdom and insight. Just think of that! He does not give these to you begrudgingly, but lavishly with wisdom and insight. We cannot even dig to the depths of the bottom of His wisdom and insight. His wisdom goes beyond what we can understand.

Remember, we are looking at the blessings that He gives in the context of His church. I am still working to understand what the passage means. In verse 9, He is now making known a mystery of His will because it is according to His pleasure that He planned in Christ. What is this mystery? It isn’t a penny novel, but something that had been hidden now revealed. What is it?

Verse 10 tells us that He will bring everything together in the Messiah – everything, both in Heaven and in earth, in the dispensation (an administration, an economy) of the fullness of time. He is giving us a glimpse of what is to come. Right now, the earth is filled with trouble as not everyone bows to His authority. In this mystery that God is revealing, He gives us hope. There is a time coming when everyone will bow to Christ! Everything will be brought together in Him.

Hold on, dear one! There is hope. He loves us. He redeems us. He forgives us. He has done this lavishly and now is giving us a glimpse of what is to come. There will not always be the pain and trouble that we have now.

What spiritual blessings! And, just wait… there is more in the coming verses! Because of this, we can say, “It Is Well With My Soul!
