What is that in your hand?
Exodus 4:1-17
Something I think those of us who are isolated, chronically ill, or care-giving think is, “What can I do for God?” or “What is my purpose in this daily tedious battle? How can I serve?”
I think we can learn from Moses. God asked him two questions in this passage.
1. “What is that in your hand?” v 2 HCSB: Use what God has given you. Use what you have to serve Him!
2. “Who made the human mouth? Who makes him mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh?” v 11 HCSB: God made you. (Psalm 139:14-16) He knows your limitations. And yet… God can still use you. Look at how He used Moses who had a stutter.
As I have walked this journey, I found that asking the random strangers who help (curbside delivery, home health care, etc.) how I may pray for them opens up doors. (OK… My name (Myrical Joy) also opens up conversations about God. It is one of the reasons I love my name!) It isn’t much, but… it is an opportunity.
Yesterday, I was the one who was blessed in reaching out. The very kind and personable gentleman bringing groceries to my car and I began to talk as I asked his name and gave mine. I asked how I could pray for him. He told me and then began praising the Jesus. He said, “I work for God, not for Walmart.” WOW… just wow! We had a mini church service right there in the parking lot, all while he continued to load groceries. We even prayed. We both went away rejoicing. 🙂
You never know how God is going to use you when you simply look at what is in your hand and realize that God knows your limitations. Moses is a great example. 🙂
